Alexander McQueen was born March 17, 1969, in East End of London, the youngest of six children. He left school at age 16 to star to work as an apprentice in traditional tailoring. He excelled and by age 20 McQueen got a job with Japanese designer Koji Tatsumo. Later he moved to Italy and worked for Romeo Gigli the famous Italian designer. Alexander McQueen returned to London to study for an M.A. at Central St. Martins School of Arts. After graduation he began his own label. At age 26 (1995) McQueen became chief designer at the French couture house of Givenchy, which is owned by LVMH. In October 2001 McQueen sold 51% of his "Alexander McQueen" company to GUCCI Group and the deal included to opening of 10 new McQueen stores. Alexander McQueen has a mix of outrageous theater, stunning and provocative design and precise tailoring techniques. His rise in the high fashion industry has been meteorically stunning as well.
