Christian Dior has become one of the most recognizable names in haute couture fashion worldwide. Dior was hired by Rubert Piquet in 1938 and in 1941 Dior worked for Lucien Lelong of Paris. In 1946 Dior opened his own fashion house with partner Jaques Rouet and backed by textile manufacturer, Marcel Boussac. Dior was on contract to Chanel to create a romantic, very feminine look. In 1953 Dior hired Yves Saint Laurent as an assistant and later Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre and John Galliano also worked at Dior. Dior is owned by LVMH which also owns Givenchy, Kenzo, Christian Lacroix and Louis Vuitton. Alexander McQueen is head of this group.
