Coty Perfumes and Fragrances a Cultural Heritage and Inspiration

Coty Perfumes has emerged as a major modern day success story in the world of beauty and it all started in 1904 as the vision of a trend setter, Francois Coty.  Francois Coty was born in Ajaccio, Corisca the Mediterranean Island owned by France.

Through astute acquisitions and licensing partnerships, Coty Inc. has achieved a leadership position in fragrance and has quickly emerged as a leading global beauty company with sales of nearly $4 billion for the year ended June 30, 2010.

Driven by passion, innovation, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, Coty has built a unique portfolio of brands that have produced some of the strongest consumer franchises in history. Coty is a company that keeps changing, staying on the cutting edge by meeting the increasingly sophisticated demands of consumers in a mercurial global market.

And it's been doing so for over 100 years. All over the world.

With offices in more than 30 countries and a strong presence in 90 markets, Coty successfully brings to market its brands faster, further and freer than most other beauty companies. Coty brands transcend borders and boundaries. Coty’s  unique business model, based on developing our power brands, licensing agreements, acquisitions and joint ventures, gives the company an ability and flexibility that sets us apart from other beauty companies.

Coty has two key areas of expertise: fragrance and beauty, and one focus: the future.

Napoleon Bonaparte was also born on Corisca a mountainous Island.  Coty’s name was invented many years later in Paris.  This famous perfume maker was born Joseph Marie Francois Spoturno (remember Corisca had been part of Italy) and his mother’s maiden name had been Coti with an “i” was changed to Coty with a “y” to appear more French.  Coty started with nothing and worked hard to achieve his dream.

Today the success list of famous Coty Perfumes is remarkable and this is the creation of a man who was unknown in Paris, a place over loaded with famous centuries old Perfumers.  The Coty Perfume names are world famous.  He started only armed with tenacity and a passion.

Coty a short History of the World of Fine Perfumes and Fragrances

Napoleon Bonaparte awarded a relative of Francois Coty a coat of arms but this did not bring the family any money.  Francoise’s Mother died when he was four and his Father died four years later, Coty was raised by his Grandmother.  He had to quit school to take a job as a salesman and then he did military service.  Both these experiences would help him in the future as he learned the hidden desires of women both as a salesman and as a dashing young man in uniform.
Francois Coty would spend a year studying perfume making in Grasse in Southern France near Cannes at the House of Chiris that is now part of Cargill.  After he completed his training he returned to Paris to spend time in his home laboratory, mixing, weighting, testing, smelling and experimenting.

But Paris competition was intense with over 300 companies, large and small, creating perfumes and some had been suppliers to various royal courts around Europe for over a hundred years.  They were famous and who was Coty?  What is known is that in 1904 Coty had created a perfume called “La Rose Jacqueminot” (rosa centifolia).

Coty got his first order when in anger he smashed a bottle of his perfume against a counter at the Grands Magsins du Louvres – the perfume buyer had refused to speak to Francois, an unknown.

The women at the Louvre upon smelling the smashed perfume ran to ask where they could get the fabulous Rose perfume.  The perfume buyer of the Grands Magasins du Louvre order 12 Bottles to be delivered the following day.  Coty’s first order and the beginning of a long career.  At www.sweetillusions.com you will find the fine Coty made French perfume for women, Designer perfumes and colognes and Celebrity perfumes at discount affordable prices.
