Estee Lauder was born Josephine Ester Mentzer in Queens, New York in 1908 after her parents had emigrated from Hungary. At about age nineteen she meet husband Joseph Lauter. In about 1937 Estee Lauder has her uncle, a chemist, design a face cream that she wanted to market. In the 1950's she expanded her line to include"Youth Dew" fragrance, scented bath oil, which became internationally successful.
