Guccio Gucci was born in 1881 in Italy, the son of a Florentine leather craftsman. As a young man he went to Paris then to London. Gucci returned to Italy in 1921 and opened his first shop in Florence. Gucci started making finely crafted accessories and with his sons Aldo, Vasco and Rodolfo he opened the first New York store in 1953. In 1953 Maurizio Gucci, son of Rodolfo sold the control to Gucci Investcorp, who put Tom Ford and Dawn Mello in charge of design. Tom Ford was born in New Mexico, USA in 1963 and he first studied interior design then fashion in Paris and New York.
