Hanae Mori was born in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, She graduated from the Women's Christian University in Tokyo, married and attended dressmaking school. Hanae Mori opened her first atelier in 1951, where she designed fabrics, perfumes, clothes and costumes for hundreds of movies, operas and ballets as well as the Olympic Game uniforms for Japan. Hanae Mori opened her Paris showroom in 1977 and she adopted the butterfly as her trademark.
