Issey Miyake was born in 1935 in Hiroshima, Japan. Miyake graduated from the Tama Art University in 1964 then he immediately moved to Paris, France. In Paris he first worked with Guy Laroche, from 1966 to 1968, then Givenchy and later for Geoffrey Beene in New York. In 1970 Issey Miyake opened the Miyake Designer Studio (MDS) and then in 1971, Miyake International, Inc. Miyake is assisted by Makiko Minagawa and they are frequently called upon to design for theater and ballet productions. For more information about Issey Miyake go to
