Rene Jules Lalique, Biography
French Perfume and Glass Designer History
Rene Jules Lalique was born on April 6, 1860 in the village of Ay, France. When his father dies he begins an apprenticeship to the jeweler Louis Aucoc, in Paris, while continuing his studies at the Ecole des Arts Decortifs. In 1878 he moves to London and attends the Sydenham College. He returns to Paris in 1880 and begins work as a freelance jewelry designer. By 1921 Rene becomes involved with interior design of French ocean liners and train chandeliers. He designs the Sevres Pavilion at the 1925 Paris Exposition. By 1926 Lalique starts making the satin-finished vases, bowls and perfume bottles for which he will become famous. For more information about Lalique, perfume bottles go to
