Marc Jacobs was born in New York on April 9, 1963. He attended Parson's School of Design, where he won many awards. While still at Parson's he designed a sweater collection for Ruben Thomas, Inc., and in 1984 he formed a partnership with Robert Duffy called Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. In 1986 he expanded and designed his first collection bearing the label Marc Jacobs. In 1986 Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy joined Perry Ellis. In 1993 Marc Jacobs International was created. In 1997 Jacobs and Duffy joined Louis Vuitton, Jacobs is Artistic Director and Duffy as Studio Director.
