On October 8, 1792 a Carthusian monk gave the young entrepreneur Wilhelm Muelhens a unique wedding present the secret formula for an "aqua mirabilis", a miracle water for internal and external use.  From the very outset, Whilhelm Muelhens believed in the success of this extraordinary formula and opened a small manufactory in Cologne's Glockengasse shortly afterwards Muelhens No. 4711 Eau de Cologne was created in 1842 in the City of Cologne (Koln), Germany.
