Emanuel Ungaro was born in 1934 in Aix-en-Provence, France and he started at an early age working in the family tailoring business. Ungaro moved to Paris when he was 22 and three years later he started to work for Cristobal Balenciaga. In 1961 Ungaro worked for Courreges. In 1965 Ungaro opened his own house of design in Paris. In 1968 Ungaro moved to Avenue Montaign and in 1996 he formed a partnership with Salvatore Ferragamo. Then in 1997 Emanuel Ungaro, Salvatore Ferragamo and Bulgari joined together to create a new company which includes Diva Perfume, Ungaro Pour Homme, Liberte France and Ungaro Week-End.
